Portlandia – Season 2

Portlandia is a TV series that premiered on IFC on January 21, 2011. The series is set and entirely shot on location in and near Portland,Oregon. It features Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein.

Portlandia is actually a sculpture that can be seen on top of the entrance of Michael Grave’s Portland Building located on Fifth Avenue, Downtown Portland. The statue is included in the opening title sequel of the series.

Season 2 of Portlandia is a continuation of the quirkiness of the main charters, Lisa and Bryce. It also a follow up on how these characters make fun of Portland,Oregon’s different subcultures and odd ways.

Fred Armisen

These two main characters played by Armisen and Brownstein portray characters that include workers for a feminist book store, organic farmers, designers for bird-decorating home, league members for hide-and-seek game, and punk rockers, and many more.

Each episode brings to mind the craziness not just of the Portland people but actually of people from other places with different cultures. The eccentric characters are usually made fun of, but still they are always appreciated for the fun and relaxation that they can provide for the viewers. The overall message of the series is to take life easy and less seriously.

The show makes fun of people and their ways, but gently and in a real funny way. In the show, no one is actually a role model, everyone has flaws. One of her characters, that of Portland rock band member Sleater-Kinney, could be a good role model for girls who like music and comedy.

For some viewers, this type of show could be very entertaining, and indeed it is. It showcases talents that we don’t see much anymore. The ability of making people laugh and of creating different characters is talent beyond compare. Not many actors can do that and not all who try succeed.
